First, the belated portrait:
Emma Lee, Elvis, and Toni! Tony! Toné! decided to brave the Lower East Side on Friday night. The impetus was a show at the Stone, on 2nd and C. THAT was great, prepared pianos and a sexy cellist. Elvis loves experimental music.
Toni! Tony! Toné! wanted to try some spots, so Elvis and Emma negoiated the 22-year-old analyst crowd. They tried Max Fish:
The Lower East Side Toy Company was too crowded. Even for serving their booze in tea cups. Elvis came and went quickly, then drank a glass of wine next door. On the way to pizza, they stopped at Welcome to the Johnsons. Usually, Elvis likes it more, but at least Top Gun was on.
Pizza. Emma Lee tried to make friends with an Australian. She failed.
On the taxi home (Toni! Tony! Toné! paid), as he recounted the night’s crowds and prices and general dirtiness, Elvis decided the best thing about that neighborhood was the Magnetic Fields’ tribute to it.
